WERC in Albany Old Railway Station Building Announcement

In addition to WERC’s relationship and frequent interaction with the Department for Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), the centre also actively engages with the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI), Department of Water & Environmental Regulation (DWER), the Great Southern Development Commission (GSDC), and the City of Albany.

The City of Albany Council remains confident about WERC to leverage growth of the regional UWA campus. The Council has a particular interest in seeing wave energy as part of their longer-term renewable energy vision and regards WERC as a powerful broker in attracting industry developers to the region. Their intention is to support WERC – as part of the UWA Oceans Institute – to bring world-class expertise in offshore engineering and marine research to Albany. WERC contributes to local Government processes as a participant in their Lower Great Southern Economic Alliance (Sub-Regional Economic Development Plan) and their Community Advisory Panel (Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan).
